The Hygiene Department of Northpark Dental Associates has over 30 years of combined experience.
As a team, we are dedicated to educating patients on the latest advancements in the science of dental hygiene. We prioritize everyone from children to teens to adults by setting aside an hour for every appointment to educate you on how to make the best decisions for your oral health care at home.
Mouth/Body Connection
It is more important than ever to take care of your teeth and gums. An unhealthy mouth relates closely to an unhealthy body. At Northpark Dental Associates, we provide a thorough hygiene exam and cleaning at every checkup. This includes taking your blood pressure and pulse rate, temperature and oxygen saturation. We review your health history at every visit, things like recent surgeries or changes in medications (whether prescribed, vitamins or supplements, over the counter or homeopathic) can greatly impact your dental health. We customize your cleaning based on your medical needs and use the latest in technology for screening as a regular part of your complete exam. We even ask about your sleep habits. Do you snore? Do you gasp for your breath or have you woken up gasping for air while sleeping? Has anyone ever witnessed you gasp for air or stop breathing while you were asleep? We will screen you for sleep apnea and may recommend further treatment including a sleep study to diagnose Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
Your visit with one of our two hygienists will include a complete periodontal assessment. This is an evaluation of your gum health. This is important in order to make the appropriate recommendations for treatment, provide necessary tools for at-home-care, and determine risk factors for certain diseases that can be linked directly to the health of your mouth.
As your hygienists, it is our responsibility to educate you on the health of your mouth and teach you the appropriate hygiene strategies to maintain oral health. This includes tooth brushing techniques, flossing options, dental aids available, nutritional counseling and even smoking/ tobacco cessation counseling if needed.
Through the use of ultrasonic scalers, hand instruments, localized antibiotics and even dental lasers, we will be able to remove plaque and calculus (soft and hard deposits) and other harmful bacteria that can contribute to periodontal disease (gum disease), malodor (bad breath) and dental decay.
It is a team effort when you are in the hygiene room. We want you to take an active role in determining what works best for you. What makes you comfortable in the chair? What dental aids will fit you best? What long term goals do you have for your dental health?
It is our goal to make your hygiene visits positive by providing a loving and caring environment. We love to educate and share our knowledge with you! We understand not all patients have the same needs or goals for their dental health. As your hygienists, we will always strive to provide the best quality in dental hygiene care. We are passionate about our profession and look forward to the opportunity to serve you!
